Bailey Forbes

Software engineer · C# / TypeScript / Rust / C

I build production APIs, a portable kernel, and community platforms that keep their contracts across releases. Every project has a write-up and a timeline built from its own commit history — three of them you can run in the browser.

How it got here

How it got here

  1. Started tutoring computer science, mathematics and cybersecurity at Indiana University’s Homework Central. Four years, 50+ students.

  2. Joined a five-person team building an electronic medical record for 26 hospital locations: HIPAA-focused testing, then a May handoff.

  3. A school disk-operations exercise was revisited and became Flinstone: a kernel from first principles, one versioned subsystem at a time.

  4. Baker Hill. C#/.NET and TypeScript integrations for loan-origination systems used by 100+ institutions, holding 584 million records.

  5. The community he tutored moved off Discord onto Homework Central, a platform he led. QPU and KeyQuorum followed over the summer.

  6. Now

Taking KeyQuorum onto real hardware. Open to software and security roles.

Extending MiTM via reverse shells

Security research with Deecon Precht: a reverse shell extends a local ARP-spoofing MiTM attack past its own network segment, run on an isolated private network, with the detection and prevention that stop it.

Baker Hill

Sep 2025 – May 2026 · Indianapolis, IN

  • Developed C#/.NET and TypeScript integrations for loan-origination systems used by 100+ financial institutions.
  • Reduced the NuComply compliance-integration process from months to days by isolating business logic from HTTP transport and automating UN/FY to NuComply exchange through an SSO endpoint.
  • Resolved about 10% of weekly production-support requests across systems holding 584 million records, working Salesforce cases and Azure DevOps.
  • Validated isolated CI/CD deployments and approved fixes before production hotfix merges for 10+ institutions.

  • Cross-validated records across local backups, Firebase, and endpoints; HIPAA-focused review and Selenium/Postman testing.
  • Contributed to a measured 60% improvement in record-processing efficiency, then handed the sponsor administrative ownership.

Off the clock

What has my attention when I am not on someone else’s clock.

Elsewhere

Classical and orchestral music, theatrical arts, and pop. College football in the fall — SEC and Big Ten — and baseball the rest of the year.

At the table

Euros when I want an engine to build, trick-taking when the conversation should stay in the round, and press-your-luck when I want the draw I probably should not take. I was at Gen Con in Indianapolis this year, over the turn of July into August.

  • Unique-deck card game

    KeyForge

Every deck is generated once and never printed again — no deckbuilding, no hunting singles. Three houses per deck, one house per turn, and you race to forge three keys. I have played since launch in November 2018.

  • Trick-taking · 4 players

    Euchre

Twenty-four cards, two partnerships, and a trump suit where the two jacks outrank everything. Fast enough that the table keeps talking. It is close to a state pastime in Indiana.

  • Euro · engine building

    Puerto Rico

Each round you pick a role — settler, builder, craftsman, captain — and everyone takes that action, but you get the bonus. The whole game is choosing the thing that helps you more than it helps them.

  • Deck-builder · push your luck

    Clank!

A dungeon crawl on top of a deck-builder. Every noisy card drops a cube in the bag, the dragon draws from that bag, and going one room deeper is always tempting. You still have to get back out.

  • Route building · the gateway

    Ticket to Ride

Collect coloured train cards, claim routes, quietly complete the destination tickets in your hand. Simple enough to teach in five minutes and still the one I reach for with a new table.

A foodie, not a cook

Three kitchens, and I am honest about my part in them: I am there for the eating. Cajun I grew up on — my family is from Louisiana. Sushi was always the delicacy, and it is still my “healthy” cheat meal.

  • Cajun · Louisiana

    Gumbo

The one the family is from. A dark roux, the trinity, and whatever the pot is for that day, over rice. Everyone who makes it is certain theirs is correct.

  • Cajun · Louisiana

    Étouffée

Shellfish smothered in a roux-thickened gravy and served over rice — étouffée means smothered. Same childhood table as the gumbo.

  • Japanese

    Sushi

Always the delicacy growing up, and still the one I tell myself is the healthy cheat meal. Precise in a way the other two are not.

  • Italian

    Pizza

Endlessly versatile and I am always up for it — the combinations never run out. That said, I will never turn down a meat pie.

  • Italian

    Spaghetti

Comfort food with nowhere to hide. The sauce is the whole dish, it wants time it is rarely given, and a rushed one always shows.

Why it shows up in the work

The community streak is not separate from the résumé. Four years tutoring STEM at Indiana University turned into Homework Central — a platform built for the people who used to live in a Discord.
